Verizon Communications Inc. is reported to have announced its customers about the shutdown of its VoiceWing Internet-based phone service and about it planning to focus on new technologies. It seems that the operator intends to close VoiceWing permanently on March 31, at least this is what a letter the company sent to customers states. The phone carrier also informs users that they can keep their phone numbers if they move to another service, but, since the process will take a lot of time, almost three weeks that is, they might not have enough time to search for an alternative. VoiceWing subscribers were provided with an adapter allowing them to connect a phone to a broadband Internet line and make phone calls this way. The service is similar to AT s CallVantage and the phone services of Vonage Holdings Corp. This type of Voice over Internet Protocol, or VoIP, services has registered a nice boost during the last decade, yet lost popularity due to persistent problems with audio quality

In today s tough economic climate, it is crucial for businesses to continue to provide superior customer service to their customers, even if they are cutting costs and downsizing. For companies who can t afford to hire a receptionist, a good way for them to keep their customers from feeling abandoned is by implementing a business VoIP service with an automated attendant feature. Automated call-forwarding systems have improved the efficiency of sales and support for many business organizations. While it seems that having a computerized auto-attendant to greet customers would result in quick desertion, businesses have reported that automated screening, routing, and fast transitions to the right professional have actually increased customer satisfaction. With Nextiva, all the essential business VoIP features, such as automated attendant, voicemail, flexible call

A source tipped me off to a Packet8 VoIP service outage last night today caused by a DNS issue. I contacted 8x8 (News - Alert) /Packet8 and Joan Citelli, Director, Corporate Communications for 8x8, Inc. to find out what caused the VoIP outage. Joan told me the following:"We are providing all subscribers who experienced this issue with the following explanation and resolution procedure via email and customer support calls. Let me know if you have any further questions."At 7 pm last night (January 22, 2008) Register.com changed the DNS for www.packet8.net and www.packet8.com by omitting the DNS and substituting a landing page in its place. The net result was call failure and inability to find Packet8 website. Our telephones and DTA's have several hard coded fail-over processes built into them. However, due to the landing page put up by Register.com, the end points were given a false signal of success and did not fail over to the backup IP addresses built into each device. With

The weakening economy has forced companies to save money in every possible way. Apart from saving money, methods are also being devised to enhance the efficiency level of workers and increase productivity. Time and attendance of labors is usually managed by employees and it takes lots of time and effort. With ExtendTime, there s no need to calculate timesheets and manage employee scheduling and attendance; the information can be transmitted automatically to companies payroll systems.
